Two Tons of Steel celebrates 20th anniversary of concert series at Gruene Hall

GRUENE, Texas – Two Tons of Steel, the award-winning rockabilly band and Texas favorite, will kick off the 20th season of its wildly popular summer concert series known as Two Ton Tuesdays at the venerable Gruene Hall beginning June 2.

The concert series, which runs for 13 consecutive Tuesdays, ends Aug. 18. The band takes the stage each Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Originally launched as a month-long series in June 1995, Two Ton Tuesdays quickly expanded to a 13-week-long summer long schedule because of its growing popularity.

“It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this 19 years, but it’s now considered a solid summer tradition for thousands of our fans,” lead singer and founding member Kevin Geil said. “We have fans in their 30s who were brought here by their parents -- and now those 30-year-olds are bringing their own kids.”

The series has drawn more than 180,000 fans from around the world over the last 19 years; was the subject in a romance novel by best-selling author Karen Kendall in which a couple’s first date was at a Two Ton Tuesdays concert; and has been featured in Life, Texas Monthly and Southern Living magazines.

Besides Geil, other members of the band are Brian Duarte (guitar), Paul Ward (drums), Jake “Sidecar” Marchese (upright bass) and Denny Mathis (steel guitar).
